Ashley Ford of New Bedford held their 5th Annual Mustang Day Car Show on Saturday, June 20th but the highlight of the day was their $25,000 raffle. Starting in November 2008, Ashley Ford began selling tickets to benefit the Veterans? Transition House of Southeastern Mass, by raffling off their 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500KR. This special edition, King of the Road vehicle is one of only 1,000 made and Ashley Ford obtained it through a lottery held by Ford Motor Co.
Paul Neary, GM of Ashley Ford explained ?our original intention was to raffle off the Shelby KR but unfortunately we did not sell enough tickets to hold the raffle for the car.? Instead, Ashley Ford decided to be creative and offered a $25,000 cash prize if they could sell a minimum of 150 tickets, for $250 each, by June 20th. The cash raffle took place as scheduled and Manuel Carrancho of New Bedford won the $25,000 cash prize along with the VTH receiving a substantial donation.
Mr. Neary explained that people bought tickets from all over the country and outside the U.S. ?We had people e-mail or call us from as far away as Norway and Germany. Not to mention people in California, Texas and Florida. People saw our video on YouTube and wanted to take part in our raffle.? Mr. Carrancho purchased two tickets to the raffle: ticket number 13 and 31. As luck would have it, Mr. Carrancho won with ticket #31.
When his ticket number was called, Mr. Carrancho was thrilled and thanked Ashley Ford for his chance to win. He excitedly explained that he had bought two tickets and almost came back because he wasn?t sure if he wanted to spend $500. He said ?I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and it means the world to me to get this money!? Robert Bancroft explained ?Mr. Carrancho plans on using his winnings to donate a gift to his local church as well as a church in Brazil. He also plans on using some of the money as a down payment on a home.?
A portion of the proceeds from this raffle will go to the Veterans? Transition House of Southeastern Mass. Ten percent or $25 from each of the tickets sold will go to the VTH. Paul Neary, GM explains ?the VTH is an organization close to my heart since my son is currently serving in the Marines. The VTH is a worthwhile organization that helps provide beds and housing for veterans who have served our country and may need some help during a difficult time in their life.?
Jim Reid, Executive Director of the VTH commented ?On behalf of the men and women of the Veterans Transition House, we thank Mr. Bancroft and the great folks at Ashley Ford for their generosity, hard work and dedication in helping our veterans programs at the Veterans Transition House. Ashley Ford put on an outstanding event and we are grateful to them. Especially in these economically challenging times, Ashley Ford?s contributions to us will help maintain the level of services that the Veterans Transition House provides to our veterans.?
The winning ticket was drawn by City Council Member Linda Morad who presented Robert Bancroft with an Official Resolution by the City Council of New Bedford. She congratulated Mr. Bancroft and recognized Ashley Ford?s on-going efforts to provide a positive atmosphere in the city of New Bedford.
